The German version of Champion is a fuzzy brown bear with black button eyes and a button nose with the German flag on it. It wears a gold ribbon tied around it’s neck. On it’s chest is a badge with the words “2002 FIFA World Cup” on it.
Poem
Germany appeared in 14 of the 16
FIFA World Cup tournaments
(1934-1938, 1954-1998). Germany is
one of the only three countries to
win three FIFA World Cup Trophies
(1954, 1974, 1990). The other 2
countries are Brazil & Italy.
Collectors note
Champion the Bear was introduced on 4th April 2002.
There are 32 different versions of Champion, each representing the countries in the 2002 World Cup. This particular bear represents Germany.
Each version of Champion was retired separately on the day that country was eliminated from the 2002 World Cup.
The German Champion the Bear retired on 30th June 2002.
